St. James United Church, Antigonish

Rental Policy

This policy will be used as a guide for the use of the facilities at St. James United Church.

The use of the facility for religious purposes by the congregation of St. James shall always be given first priority. Members and Adherents of St. James will not be charged fees for the use of the facilities for religious events, i.e. funerals, weddings, and receptions. Committees of St. James United Church shall have the use fo the facilities without charge A planned event will not be canceled to free up the facility for use by a third party. A third party is defined as a group not associated with St. James, or a person who is not a member or adherent of St. James United Church.

Committees using the kitchen facilities to prepare meals for service to the public are encouraged to have at least one person who has completed a food handler training course.

Any group or person wishing to rent the kitchen facilities must show proof  that the person in charge has passed a food handler training course.

Alcohol will not be served, provided, sold, or consumed at any event.

Smoking will not be permitted inside the building.

All request for use of the facility must be approved by the Trustees and Property committee. Any decision by Trustees and Property committee may  be appealed to the Council.

Organized Groups are to carry sufficient liability insurance, and to show proof of coverage.

People shall be responsible to clean the facilities after usage, failure to clean up will result in the forfeiture fo their clean up deposit. Renters will be expected to pay for the repair/replacement of all damage resulting from their usage of the facilities.

For rental purposes, a day is defined as 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. or part there of. As an example of an organization wished to set up Friday night for an ecent on Saturday they may be charged for two days.

Rental Rates

1. Hall: $75.00/day, plus a $100.00 clean up deposit.

2. Kitchen: $35.00/day plus a $100.00 clean up/breakage deposit, the chair of the UCW will be consulted prior to the renting of the kitchen facilities.

3. Sunday School rooms: $20.00/day, $80.00 week (Monday - Friday)

4. Parlor: $50.00/day, plus a $100.00 clean up deposit.

5. Sanctuary: $250 plus $100.00 clean up deposit. The use of the o9rgan and piano will be co-ordinated through the organist, who may charge a fee. The minister will co-ordinate pastoral services and may charge a fee. The custodian will co-ordinate janitorial services and may charge a fee. Use of the Sanctuary must be approved by the Worship Committee.

6. Exemptions: Applications for exemptions to this policy may be made to the Trusties and Property Committee or the Council, the application shall be in writing stating the reasons for the request, and will be signed by a representative fo the organization.

7. Discretion: Trusties and Property committee may use discretion implementing these guidelines.
